THE SUN:  After seemingly weeks and weeks, the sun is shining this morning after seemingly weeks and weeks of perpetual rain.

SHIPMATE PASSING:  I am sad to report the passing of Shipmate Hans J. Swierski. Shipmate Swierski was aboard 1963 thru 1966 as an EN2.  Condolences can be sent to

FINANCES:  The beginning cash-on-hand balance was $500.80 with an expense of $20.00 for the Altair email address renewal leaving a balance of $480.80.  The beginning balance of the Altair savings was $10,210.04 plus interest of $19.15 leaving a balance of $10,229.19; total balance is $10,709.99.

Not much Altair news.  We need some Altair news reporters out there!!!  Years ago, I used to put out a information/newsletter a time or two a year with sea stories, etc.  But, as info dried up after a few years, it just went defunct. I kinda miss that!

FINANCIAL:  The beginning and ending cash balance is $500.80.  Also, the beginning and ending  Altair savings balance is $10,210.04. No income or expenses with the total balance of $10,710.84.

Greetings Altair Shipmates.  Here is your monthly report for December 2017.

Year 2017 was a good year overall, a good reunion year, etc.  Year 2018 has started off with one huge wild winter storm.  I hope all shipmates and their families are warm and safe.  Here in NE Texas it was just just cold; no snow or ice.

SHIPMATES:  No shipmate reports were filed.

FINANCIAL:  The cash on hand was $500.80; no income or expenses.  Savings of $10,210.04 also had no income or expenses; total  is $10,710.84.

Greetings Altair Shipmates.  Here is your monthly report for November 2017.

I hope all the shipmates and  their families enjoyed Thanksgiving holidays.....Although I am a bit tired of leftover turkey and ham.  

SHIPMATE PASSING:  The following email was received:  "My Dad, Radm Joe G. Schoggen, died on September 15, 2017.  Thank you for maintaining a website for the Altair.  Finding some pictures of him, there, has been a joy.  Steve Schoggen" CDR Schoggen served aboard the Altair 1959-1961.  I am sure lots of shipmates will remember him as I do.

FINANCIAL:  The beginning and ending  cash-on-hand is $500.80 with no income nor expenses.  The beginning Altair savings was $10,232.18 with no income and $22.14 expenses leaving a balance of $10,210.04.  Expense was a donation to a local VFW post.  Total cash is $10,710.84.

Greetings Altair Shipmates.  Here is your monthly report for August 2017.

HURRICANES:  Wow!  There are 3 active hurricanes right now.  Plus the one that tore out and flooded the Texas Gulf Coast.  Our thoughts andcprayers go out to the to the all people residing in the paths.

FIREFOX:  For some reason, my Firefox log in account has become squirreled and I have been trying to fix the problem for the past several days.  Even after a couple of resets it still does not even halfway work.  Thank goodness I have been able to transfer most all of the info to Microsoft Edge.  Any other recommendations?

Greetings Altair Shipmates.  Here is your monthly report for May 2017.

Late spring and early summer in East Texas has been nice and cool with
lots of rain.  I have a huge toadstool farm here!

REUNION:  If you are planning to attending the Altair Reunion in Myrtle Beach, October 11-15, and have not registered yet.......Please do so as soon as you can.  It is very important!!

SHIPMATES PASSING:  The following Altair shipmates have passed:

• Henderson, Edgar L, RD2, 1958-1961.  I remember serving with Shipmate Henderson very well.  The family can be reached at 4275 N. Hinkle Road, Bloomington, IN 47408-9362; 812-336-4584 Passed April 7, 2017.

I have sent condolence cards to both families from all the Altair Shipmates.

SHIPMATE:  Shipmate Dan Douglas was contacted by Shipmate Eugene Dutriel, SK1, 1958-1960 asking about the Altair reunion.  We are trying to track down an mailing address for Shipmate Dutriel as he is interested in attending the reunion.  He lives in Raleigh, NC.  More to follow.
